What our clients says Real words from happy clients "The words of Dr Audrey-Flore Ngomsik still resonate" If you have to give up something to gain - give up waiting! The words of Dr Audrey-Flore Ngomsik still resonate after yesterday’s conference celebrating the International Women’s Day by Women4Cyber Belgium . The topic was “Give to Gain – How to Strike the Balance in Cyberspace” and it was one of the rare events where the room felt alive (even dancing at one moment 💃) and everyone was participant in the “big panel”. What I took with me: • The most dangerous vulnerability in your system is not in the code, it is in the balance and diversity in the team • Leadership starts with self-leadership • Success happens when people share knowledge, mentor and support the next generation • Disruption happens when skills become obsolete from one day to the other • Opportunities in life come either too early or too late. What is important is to notice and seize such opportunity • Sustainability is what holds when no one is watching • To be successful and sustainable in cybersecurity in the future you have to learn, innovate, adapt, be aware, agile and transparent • Supporting women’s advancement creates a more connected world, making the cyber world more diverse Denislava S Their work is truly making a difference" I had the privilege of learning fromTrianon during Module 1 of the Transform Today, Lead Tomorrow program, focused on understanding climate change and its impacts. Their ability to present complex topics with clarity and their dedication to fostering critical thinking in participants were truly remarkable. Their work is truly making a difference in equipping individuals to tackle global challenges! Georgina Bîrdan "I was impressed by your smart views, ideas and direction" As your role as a board advisor, Chairperson Acquisition & Branding, I was impressed by your capabilities, knowledge and smart view, ideas and direction. Your dedication to Obelis group, vision and objectives is much appreciated and admired, and I am thankful for your expertise. Wishing you health and success. Gideon Ekayam "Stimulating ideas and views" I would like to sincerely thank you for your contribution to this year's EU Ambassadors Conference. Your intervention was highly appreciated by participants. Your stimulating ideas and views inspired and contributed to open frank discussions around the main theme of the conference "The new global security environment: What way forward for frontiers of European Diplomacy?" Your sincerely Stefano Sannino "Your impact is measurable" On behalf of the leadership of Rise & Lead Women, I express my deepest gratitude for your invaluable contribution to this year's Rise & Lead Summit & Awards. We look forward to staying connected and working together to continue advancing the mission of empowering leaders and driving positive change. With most profound appreciation and warmest regards, Ebere Akadiri "Trianon leads the way" Dr Ngomsik's vision is clear and the information she and Markus curate is spot-on. I subscribe to their channel to keep our cultural NGO up-to-date on facts about the environment and to stay at the forefront of a socially-just movement. They provide a firm framework and encouraging counsel so that we can learn to establish our strategy. Trianon leads the way in advocating for the interrelation of the three strands of an economic transition. Ann-Christine Racette "Useful to design sustainable solutions" The experts of Trianon gave a very solution-oriented workshop to our participants - aspiring entrepreneurs. The information given proved uselful to the participants to design a solution that is sustainable in the most meaningful way possible for their target customer and for them. Shana Perusini Lambert "Self reflexion, perspective and manageable tips" I had the opportunity to attend several events organised by Trianon Scientific Communication, none of which disappointed. They have a knack of bringing together people from different walks of life, and a way of speaking to and about our different realities. Their views on sustainability are inclusive and wholesome - taking a multi dimensional approach to the topic, but never unnecessarily judgmental. Without being shamed or judged - your takeaways will always be self reflection, perspective and manageable tips on how you could bring about a change. I strongly recommend their events, they are interactive, insightful and very inspiring! Radhika Singh "They brought not only an interesting overview of research but also managed to connect the human story behind" Audrey-Flore gave a very engaging post show talk for The Bridge Theatre Brussels’ own production of Lungs by Duncan Macmillan. This is an internationally renowned play about a couple’s decision whether or not to have a child, against the backdrop of a looming climate catastrophy. Audrey as a scientist not only brought an interesting overview of research, but also managed to connect to the human story behind what we saw on stage and put it into a scientific and also practical context. Hers was one of the most engaging of our talks and the audience was really appreciative of her experience and insights. Eva Kamaras "Great source of ideas to build a sustainable supply chain" Audrey and Markus were a great source of ideas to build a sustainable supply chain, identifying both principles to follow and potential players to work with. They also helped me along the way to identify funding opportunities, even helping me craft my pitch. I also appreciated their skill as project managers, keeping everything moving and on track, and delivering on what they said they would. Diane Noyes "Exceptional workshops" Your workshops on sustainability were exceptional and very informative. I have learned a lot, and I thank you for that. Paschasie Ganga "Not afraid to disagree when it is necessary" Sometimes, we meet people who become an inspiration and Dr Ngomsik is one of them. I worked for Audrey in the position of Quality Manager and we have lead successful and rewarding projects together, thanks to her perseverance and her ability to federate her team. With her, objectives were clear, expectations were defines, and she was always available to help us. She paid close attention to us and listened to our input. She was very kind yet also somewhat direct character. All of this allowed me as an employee to believe in my skills, to want to evolve and to get better every day, which I think I can say I did, thanks to her support. I saw her encouraging collaborators, accompanying them throughout the changes and taking her time for everyone who needed it, so that we could all meet the challenges that we were facing as a team. Dr Ngomsik is a frank woman who is not afraid to disagree when it is necessary and who defends her ideas until the end. She knows how to be stubborn in the right measure which helps to raise her team to a higher level. It has been a pleasure to work with her. Meghan Calvo "Gifted professional teacher" I’m lucky to have worked with Dr Ngomsik. She is a gifted professional teacher with a rare combination of patience, personal insights and innovative solutions. She is a hard worker and always results driven. As a manager she is not only interested in the company’s bottom line, but also in his employees' professional growth." I personally benefit from her experience in this context. Julien Toussaint "Solid people skill, strong leadership" Dr Ngomsik has been the project leader of several projects in which I have worked on. From the time I have worked together with her I can highlight her solid people management skills. She combines her strong leadership with her team player attitude and ability to delegate and empower people. She is very good at training and motivating others at the same time that she adapts her management attitude to different people personalities and needs creating a motivational and pleasant working environment. Reyes Menéndez Gonzàlez "It was refreshing to see these concepts cast into strategies and put into action not by HR but by scientists" In the course of my activities as an HR advisor I have collaborated with Trianon Scientific Communication (i.e. Audrey-Flore Ngomsik and Markus Fanselow, the founders). They specialise in advising companies to go green(er)in order tobecome more profitable. Their holistic approach (People, Planet, Profit) has impressed me and seems well suited to the problems companies and organisations face today. It was refreshing to see these concepts embraced, cast into strategies, and put into action not by people from an HR background but by scientists. Their scientific background certainly helps them when it comes to analysing data and spotting the trends hidden therein. To conclude, I can wholeheartedly recommend them as advisors in the fields of Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility. Nicolas Delebois "Potential to have a huge impact" Your solutions are scalable and have the potential to have a huge impact on corporate climate mitigation. Jennifer Mariconi "Talented speaker" I watched Dr. Ngomsik speak at the Department for International Trade’s (DIT) event for Belgian and UK companies from diverse and minority backgrounds and at another event titled "Why startup-fundraising is one of the most tangible (gender and race) diversity gaps". During both events, Dr. Ngomsik's knowledge, expertise, and ability to communicate complex ideas into easily understandable anecdotes and examples were on full display. An obviously talented speaker, I recommend Dr. Ngomsik for any and all events on sustainability, leadership, and innovation. Tino Chibebe "The other speakers were boring in comparision" .. The panel had four speakers but only one of them could truly speak...Dr Audrey-Flore Ngomsik. She has have a great tonality in your voice and your gestures are super engaging. Her message was powerfully put and extremely relevant. The rest of the speakers were boring in comparison. Melanie Hussel "Wonderful experts" Trianon Scientific Communication are wonderful experts who, since the launch of my start-up, have always provided excellent advice! I don't know anyone more involved and efficient than them! In addition, Dr. Audrey-Flore Ngomsik has a communicative joie de vivre that makes any collaboration ultra positive! Thank you for everything! Sophie Boulanger "Serious and precise work" I appreciate the serious and precise work offered by Trianon Scientific Communication. Strong knowledge and expertise and takes the time to understand DEI and sustainability challenges inside businesses. Fast, in-depth service. Madeleine de Hauke "Trianon is inspiring and makes the difference" Audrey-Flore is one of the most impressive and impactful person I met since I started to live in Belgium. Her action on environmental policy, fighting against green washing and fostering innovation is simply astounding. The list of project she supported, the participation in Belgium governmental panel to provide directives, the support of artistic project for broadcasting environmental cause in only the tip of the iceberg of the incredible impact she makes. Astounding when listening and watching her defend the environmental and diversity inclusion causes as a public speaker. Her presence on stage is remarkably radiating and joyful. As a key note speaker she makes the difference and leaves a durable footprint on the memory of the audiences. Remarkable as an entrepreneur and incubator of talents. The reach she gets with her company Trianon Consulting is inspiring and makes the difference. Jord Rolland de Rengervé "Trianon is an inspiration" Trianon is an inspiration. I recently collaborated with them on the Intersectional Solutions for Climate Change conference they have organized in Brussels. This was a first-of-its-kind event, putting intersectionality firmly at the centre of the climate change debate. The range of speakers, from vast technical disciplines and representing so many identities and backgrounds, was amazing. I could not imagine how they found the time, skill and thought to pull this all together! We need more events like this in the future. Helen Tubb "They shattered the norm" I attended the "Intersectional solutions to climate change (ISCC)" conference organised by Trianon Scientific Communications on March 11, 2024 as a speaker to the panel on "The difficulty in making the change happen". This conference absolutely shattered the norm with its unparalleled diversity, scientific rigour, and inclusive atmosphere. As an immigrant woman of colour in finance and economics, typical conferences lack representation, leaving one disheartened and marginalised. However, ISCC was a breath of fresh air. Audrey's excellent curation brought together a range of voices, each backed by robust research and personal narratives. From start to finish, attendees felt empowered, validated, and at ease. This event must be upheld as a testament to what is possible, that diverse perspectives are not only possible but essential, especially in critical dialogues like climate change. Massive gratitude to Audrey, Markus, and the Trianon Scientific Commucation team and volunteers for proving that inclusivity can thrive even in Brussels. Uutee Batsaikhan "Trianon is a reference in sustainability" Trianon is a true reference in the sustainability field. I had the opportunity to participate and contribute as a partner at the conference "Intersectional solution for climate change" where pragmatic solutions were discussed with a variety of perspectives regarding gender, background, gender orientation, race, nationality, etc. One of the most insightful conferences I ever attended. I hope more people could get access to these topics and variety of voices. Everyone could benefit! Inês Moura "We need more disruptors and innovators like them" What can I say about Dr. Audrey-Flore? She's truly one of a kind. Every event on Sustainability, DEI or Entrepreneurship you'll go, there's a very high chance that you'll see Audrey on the stage sharing her experience and expertise. She has an incredible energy, drive and confidence which inspires me to do more and be more. Her impressive curriculum and expertise speak for itself. We need more disruptors and innovators like her who are not afraid to challenge the status quo to help minorities to reach equity and create a more sustainable world. Christine Reinders (Member of The Nine) "Your guidance has been a beacon, illuminating the path ahead" Your guidance has been a beacon, illuminating the path ahead. Your encouragement to step out of my comfort zone has enabled me to envision and articulate the potential of my business in ways I had not imagined before. I am immensely grateful for your mentorship and look forward to continuing our collaboration in the future. Sanghmitra Bhardwaj "Perfect dosage of fun and intellect" As a member of the club "The Nine", I have the regular pleasure to assist to events organised by Trianon Scientific Communication Their smart tips and advices on diversity & inclusion have helped me in my own role in the finance sector, to keep being confident as a woman in a managerial position, in a predominantly masculine and conservative scene. Their events give me the energy to even go further in my own path of promoting diversity & inclusion, but also sustainability and ESG within the corporate world, by active advocacy or silent leadership. Indeed, They show that there are many ways to advocate for what we believe in, while being empathic of everyone's journey, without judgement or shaming, but by communication, information and education. I also wish I will become one day a great Master of Ceremony like Dr Ngomsik, as Audrey leads events with the perfect dosage of fun and intellect, so that the keys ideas are saved in our brains. In other words : she's a great mentor even without mentoring ! Astrid Horn-Durand (Member of The Nine) "An inspiration" I was blown away by Dr. Audrey-Flore Ngomsik's insights and the passion she brings to everything she does. She is an inspiration to all who believe in the power of diversity and inclusion in the business world. Safaa Chafari "All our senses were put to the test" Thank you for this insightful session! All our senses were put to the test with this challenge! I realized how ignorant we still are on this topics when it comes to making sustainable choices in everyday life! Amina Langedijk Testimonials

Scientific approach to CSR strategy, diversity & inclusion, and environmental innovation that delivers exceptional growth beyond regulatory requirements. Meet Trianon Scientific Communication Co- founded by a Statistical Anomaly. What you learn when you're the person who wasn't supposed to be in the room, and why that's exactly what makes the insights valuable. Book a discovery conversation Our Approach Dr Ngomsik provides the uncomfortable questions and strategic architecture. Dr Fanselow ensures they become working systems that deliver measurable results. Clients get both the provocation and the implementation. This dynamic, strategic provocation meets systemic implementation is core to Trianon's methodology? BOOK A DISCOVERY CONVERSATION From personal insight to scalable methodology How do you systematize insights that come from being statistically improbable? Dr Ngomsik & Dr Fanselow founded Trianon Scientific Communication to answer a different uncomfortable question: How do you systematize insights that come from being statistically improbable? The answer became Trianon's methodology, a data-driven approach that rebuilds sustainability strategies around economic logic instead of moral rhetoric. Not because economic logic is "better" than moral arguments. Because economic logic is what actually survives contact with reality. Most consultants tell you what's wrong. Most scientists tell you what's possible. Most policy experts tell you what's coming. We are the rare professionals who tell you what transforms industries with the data to back it up. BOOK A DISCOVERY CONVERSATION The Leadership Team Co-Founder & CEO Black women hold 2-5% of board seats globally. Dr. Audrey-Flore Ngomsik is one of them. She didn't get there by being comfortable. She got there by developing pattern recognition that privilege never requires, the ability to spot systemic risks that comfortable insiders consistently miss. With a PhD in Physical and Analytical Chemistry from Sorbonne University and 20 years navigating the intersection most people claim doesn't exist: rigorous science, profit optimization, and policy architecture, she learned to ask questions others avoid. Dr Ngomsik leads strategic architecture, client acquisition through speaking and thought leadership, and high stakes moments. She brings 20+ years experience in sustainability, where she was working before it has even a name, and experience of pattern recognition that spots what comfortable insiders consistently miss. Dr Audrey-Flore Ngomsik The Logo: Complexity by Design Five colors. Not just green. Because sustainability isn't just environmental, it's People, Planet, Profit integrated. Red signals urgency. Blue (People) , social systems. Yellow (Profit) , economic viability. Magenta , innovation. Green (planet) : Yes, it's here. But it's ONE dimension, not THE dimension. Simultaneously. Not sequentially. The fountain pen at center? Science over spin. Every claim we make is documented, researched, traceable. Data-driven rigor, not inspirational platitudes. The triangular geometry? Systems thinking. Change one dimension, you affect all three. Ignore one, the whole strategy collapses. Most logos simplify. Ours reflects reality: transforming businesses for sustainability IS complex. The bold palette, geometric precision, and multi-dimensional structure say what we are a rigorous, systemic, unapologetic. If the logo looks complicated, that's because the work is. And we refuse to pretend otherwise. Our job is to make it simple for you! Our Logo Explained Co-Founder & Chief Implementation Officer Dr. Markus Fanselow bridges the gap between laboratory innovation and operational reality. With a PhD in Chemistry from Queens University Belfast and over 15 years of experience developing sustainable products and processes, Dr. Fanselow has spent his career at the critical interface between industry and academia. His expertise spans waste valorisation, bio-fuel development, and circular economy technologies, with a focus on what actually scales beyond pilot projects. As Co-Founder of Trianon Scientific Communication, Dr. Fanselow leads Phase 2 (Framework Design) and Phase 3 (Implementation Support) of the transformation journey. While Dr. Ngomsik challenges assumptions and builds strategy, Dr. Fanselow captures science from research, designs operational frameworks, and embeds change into business processes. He also specializes in translating technical complexity into stakeholder language, helping companies communicate innovations clearly, find the right tone of voice for different audiences, and translate company news into business news that markets understand. Dr Markus Fanselow The Brussels Advantage As Vice-President of Brussels' Climate Experts Committee and board member of the European Policy Centre, Dr Audrey-Flore Ngomsik doesn't just advise on regulations, she helps shape them. This means Trianon's clients aren't scrambling to comply with sustainability requirements. They're positioned to profit from them before competitors see them coming. We know what's coming because we help write what's coming. Trianon Scientific Communication Where sustainability becomes strategy Your problem might not be sustainability per se , but the solution always is. ENSURE YOUR LONG TERM SUCCESS

Most speakers are either provocative business strategists OR technical experts. I'm both. That means I can challenge your C-suite in the morning and discuss energy storage chemistry with your engineers in the afternoon. The keynotes I deliver fall into two tracks: I Don't Deliver Pre-Packaged Talks Designed to captivate and inspire, these talks focus on strategic insights and transformative ideas. Ideal for C-suite executives, leadership forums, and large conferences. Recent Examples: AI: Sustainability savior or Silent threat? Is AI truly the answer to our sustainability challenges, or are we overlooking its hidden costs? This talk moves beyond the hype to address critical environmental, social, and business considerations. I'll provoke thought, inspire action, and encourage a more holistic understanding of AI's role in creating a sustainable future. When CSR becomes strategy Is your CSR program actually driving change, or is it just expensive window dressing for investors? This talk cuts through the corporate sustainability theater to expose what actually moves the needle. We fixed the Ozone Layer. So why can't we fix climate change? Innovate to last Companies ignoring climate and social urgency aren't just bad corporate citizens, it is business malpractice. Regulators are circling, investors are pulling out, customers are switching brands, and your best talent is already updating their LinkedIn profiles. Yet most boardrooms still treat sustainability like expensive charity work instead of what it actually is: survival strategy with a profit margin. This talk challenges the myth that environmental action is a trade-off against performance. I'll show you why that's not just wrong, it's financially reckless. We'll explore how visionary companies don't just "adapt" to climate reality, they rewrite the playbook entirely. Hidden innovators: Untold stories that shape the world Behind nearly every "breakthrough" we celebrate, there are women whose contributions were erased, minimized, or outright stolen. From space exploration to HIV research, drug safety to climate science, the real architects of progress were systematically written out of the story. This isn't a feel-good diversity lecture. It's an interactive investigation into why our mythologized version of "genius" is costing us solutions to today's biggest challenges. You'll uncover the hidden figures whose insights transformed medicine, computing, and physics, then ask the question no one wants to answer: if we erased this much talent from history, how much are we still ignoring today? I started solving sustainability problems in 2004, back when "green" was just a color and most boardrooms thought carbon footprint was something hippies worried about. Here's what two decades in the lab taught me that MBA programs won't: real sustainability breakthroughs don't happen in strategy decks. They happen when you understand why one polymer bonds differently than another, how molecular structure determines whether a material can actually be recycled (or just gets greenwashed), and which chemical processes are burning money while claiming to save the planet. I've watched entire industries bet billions on "sustainable" solutions that violate basic chemistry. I've seen C-suites reject profitable innovations because they couldn't distinguish science from science fiction. And I proved, in peer-reviewed research published in the International Journal of Business Administration, what I've known since my first article: sustainability ROI isn't soft metrics and stakeholder feelings. It's quantifiable, it's molecular, and it's sitting in your operational inefficiencies right now. Most sustainability experts translate business problems into environmental language. I translate molecular realities into profit margins. 02 I prove profit, not preach Most sustainability conversations force you to pick a side: financial performance or environmental responsibility. Quarterly results or long-term impact. But what if that's the wrong question entirely? Here's what I've learned managing €25M P&L and advising companies across industries: your problem might not be sustainability per se, but the solution always is. The companies that will lead aren't choosing between false binaries. They're embracing a different reality: Profit and purpose. Efficiency and empathy. Innovation and impact. Not as trade-offs, but as multipliers. I've watched organizations transform sustainability from cost center to competitive advantage, not through sacrifice, but through smarter strategy. The insight that changes everything? Sustainability isn't about doing less harm. It's about unlocking value that was always there, hidden in inefficiencies we've normalized. The question isn't whether you can afford to prioritize sustainability. It's whether you can afford not to. 03 I shape policy, not just opinions Most sustainability consultants read policy briefs and make predictions. I sit on the Experts Climate Committee of the Brussels Capital Region and the Governing Board of the European Policy Centre. When regulations shift, I'm often in the room where it happens. But here's why that matters to you: I don't operate in just one domain. I move between lab benches and boardrooms, between molecular innovation and policy corridors, between startup execution and institutional influence. That's rare, because most experts are either technical scientists who've never managed P&L, or business strategists who couldn't explain a carbon bond if their quarterly results depended on it, or policy advisors who've never actually implemented what they recommend. I've delivered profitable sustainability transformation at scale because I understand what works in all three worlds: the chemistry that makes solutions viable, the business model that makes them scalable, and the regulatory landscape that makes them inevitable. Global recognition and board appointments followed, not because I chased awards, but because cross-cultural fluency and policy influence open doors that credentials alone never will. The advantage? When I explain where sustainability is headed, it's not speculation. It's pattern recognition from inside the system that's reshaping your industry, whether you're ready or not. don't treat environmental, social, and economic sustainability as separate initiatives. They understand these are interconnected systems that, when aligned properly, create unprecedented competitive advantages. The organisations that truly succeed when companies were still afraid of environmental regulations and social responsibility was considered charity. I was in Sorbonne laboratories developing solutions for industrial pollution while business schools were teaching that profit and purpose were incompatible. My journey began before "sustainability" was trendy I've seen the evolution from compliance-driven approaches to strategic integration. Today, I help mid-market companies ($50M-$500M) avoid the mistakes larger corporations made and build sustainability into their competitive DNA from the start. That early start gave me a unique perspective: Here's what I've discovered after two decades of holistic sustainability work: Sustainable strategy that fits your reality Beyond the buzz words BOOK YOUR GAME-CHANGING KEYNOTE HERE IS WHAT I WILL NOT DO Show up with a generic sustainability deck and pretend the chemical industry faces the same challenges as fashion, or that cosmetics can solve problems the same way food systems do. I won't recycle the same TED talk across every conference room, drop buzzwords like "circular economy" without addressing your sector's specific barriers, or ignore the hard trade-offs your industry actually faces. BECAUSE SUSTAINABILITY IS NOT ONE SIZE FITS ALL The path to decarbonization in chemicals looks nothing like it does in tech. Textile circularity hits fundamentally different barriers than food waste. And anyone selling you a universal playbook is either naive or doesn't care if it actually works for you. I WORK ACCROSS INDUSTRIES AND THEIR MESSY REALITIES From the staggering environmental cost of colour in textiles to building disability-inclusive pathways in the low-carbon transition. From sustainable food systems and green materials innovation to waste transformation that closes loops instead of creating expensive PR. From untangling the CSR-ESG-SDG alphabet soup to asking what a genuinely sustainable cosmetics industry would require beyond "clean beauty" Instagram posts. Each talk is adapted to your industry's specific constraints, opportunities, and the uncomfortable questions no one's asking in your boardroom yet. WHAT STAYS CONSTANT The challenge to move past performative sustainability toward strategies that are measurable, profitable, and actually transformative. Someone needs to tell your industry's specific truth, not just the sanitized version that fits nicely in your annual report. ASK FOR AVAILABILITY What's YOUR Uncomfortable Question? These examples show the range, from business strategy to technical systems, from sustainability economics to AI ethics. But I don't show up with pre-packaged slides. I show up having interviewed your stakeholders, studied your industry's specific contradictions, and identified the question you're avoiding. Then I ask it, backed by data you can't dismiss. ASK US YOUR UNCOMFORTABLE QUESTION We needed a speaker who could talk to both our C-suite and our R&D team at our annual conference. Dr. Ngomsik did the opening keynote on business strategy, then a technical deep-dive on the sustainability of our food system, for our technical people. Both sessions had the highest engagement scores we've ever recorded. Not because people agreed with everything, because she made them think differently about problems they thought they understood. Trianon's 7 sustainability consulting principles: Economics before ethics, data before hope, truth before comfort. 60-80% profit increases. Brussels-based. What We Believe. These aren't aspirational values we put on posters. These are operational principal that guide every client engagements, every recommendation, every uncomfortable question we ask. BOOK A DISCOVERY CONVERSATION 1 Economics before Ethics Sustainability strategies that ignore economic viability fail. Period. We don't start by asking "What's the right thing to do?" We start by asking "What actually works economically?" Not because ethics don't matter. Because solutions that can't survive in the market aren't solutions, they're expensive moral theater. What this means in practice: We'll show you when your sustainability initiative makes you feel good but destroys your margins. We'll help you find approaches where environmental performance and profit aren't competing, they're the same calculation done correctly. 2 Truth before Comfort Most consultants tell you what you want to hear. We tell you what you need to know, even when it contradicts your five-year plan, challenges your board's assumptions, or suggests your entire business model needs rebuilding. If you need validation with "sustainable" branding, hire someone else. If you need someone to question your assumptions before the market does it for you, we should talk. Sometimes the uncomfortable truth is: your current approach can't work. Not "needs improvement." Can't work. The economics don't close. The regulatory trajectory makes it obsolete. The supply chain physics are impossible. What this means in practice: We've walked away from engagements where the client wanted us to validate a predetermined strategy. We've told pharmaceutical executives their business model has a fatal flaw. We've shown food companies their circular economy investments will never break even. Not to be provocative, to prevent millions in wasted capital. 3 Data before hope Your sustainability strategy can't be built on aspirations, good intentions, or industry best practices that don't actually work. We show you the data, including the data that's uncomfortable. Virgin plastic: €943/tonne. Recycled plastic: €1,631/tonne. Climate change: 173-280 additional cancer cases per 100,000 women per 1°C rise. EU CSRD requirements: forcing 50,000+ companies to report by 2028. These aren't opinions. These are facts. Your strategy either accounts for them or fails when it meets reality. What this means in practice: We don't build strategies around what you wish were true. We build them around what IS true, then show you how to profit from reality instead of being destroyed by it. Chemistry PhD rigor meets Brussels policy architecture meets entrepreneurship. Not hope, not hype, not hashtags. 4 Questions before solutions Most consultants show up with pre-packaged solutions. We show up with uncomfortable questions that expose the assumptions your strategy depends on. We do not ask rhetorical questions. We ask strategic question with economic implications you're probably not addressing. The right question asked early is worth more than the perfect solution applied late. We help you ask the questions your organization has been avoiding, before your competitors ask them for you. What this means in practice: Our diagnostic phase isn't about confirming what you already know. It's about exposing what you don't want to see. We interview 15-20 stakeholders, analyze your strategy, find out where you could be more profitable, and identify the fundamental contradictions preventing results. Then we rebuild from there. 5 Systems before statements Sustainability isn't a communications challenge. It's a business model challenge. No amount of messaging fixes a strategy that doesn't work economically. We don't help you "talk about" sustainability better. We help you rebuild the systems (supply chains, product development, operational processes, regulatory positioning) that actually deliver results. Your stakeholders don't care about your sustainability report. They care about whether you'll still be profitable when regulations tighten, when carbon pricing becomes real, when cheap materials become illegal. What this means in practice: If you want help rebuilding your business model so there's something worth communicating, we should talk. Our clients see 60-80% profit increases because we change the economics, not the messaging. Most importantly we remove green & social washing from your communication. 6 Selectivity before scale We could work with every company that contacts us. We don't. Not because we're exclusive, because this work requires the right organizational readiness. If you're not prepared to question fundamental assumptions, implement difficult changes, or commit to 6 months of intensive work, we're not the right partner. And that's fine, there are plenty of consultants who'll take your money for incremental improvements. We're selective because our methodology works when the organization is ready for it. Forcing it on unprepared companies wastes everyone's time and damages both reputations. What this means in practice: We turn down engagements regularly. We've told prospects they're not ready. We've recommended they try smaller interventions first and come back in 12 months. Because delivering transformative results requires the right starting conditions, and pretending otherwise serves no one. 7 Environmental, Social, and Economic Are Inseparable Environmental sustainability alone doesn't fix revenue problems. Social sustainability alone doesn't cut costs. Economic sustainability that ignores environmental and social factors is liquidation with a longer timeline. Most companies treat ESG as three separate initiatives. We treat them as what they actually are: the same system viewed from three angles. When a mid-market food company came to us with "input costs up 18%," their all-white-male leadership team saw a procurement problem. What we saw: their core customer demographic (women and people of color under 35) had abandoned them because the brand lacked credibility. The solution wasn't "better sourcing" OR "diversity initiatives" OR "waste reduction." It was all three, simultaneously. Because that's how systems actually work. What this means in practice: We don't let you isolate "the environmental problem" from the social and economic context that created it. If your sustainability strategy doesn't account for all three dimensions, it's not a strategy, it's compliance theater that won't survive contact with reality. RECENT BUSINESS CASES Ready to work with these principles? If you read this page and thought "This is exactly the approach we need," tell us your uncomfortable question. If you read this and thought "This sounds too challenging," that's useful information too, for both of us. TELL US YOUR UNCOMFORTABLE QUESTION

It's a puzzling paradox that highlights the deep connection between food waste and food security. Let's dive into this crucial issue and explore an innovative solution that's gaining traction: Food Social Security model. The Food Waste Dilemma Imagine filling your shopping cart, only to dump a third of it in the trash before leaving the store. Sounds crazy, right? Yet that's essentially what's happening on a global scale. We're producing enough food to feed everyone, but a shocking amount never reaches a plate. This waste isn't just about forgotten leftovers in your fridge. It's a systemic problem that stretches from farm to fork. First, let's clarify two terms that are often confused: 1. What are Food Loss and Food Waste? Food Loss This is like accidentally dropping your ice cream cone. It refers to unintentional reductions in food quantity or quality before it reaches consumers. It involves: Crops left unharvested due to market prices Produce discarded for not meeting cosmetic standards Food spoiling during transport or storage Excess inventory in supermarkets Crops damaged by pests or milk spoiling due to lack of refrigeration during transport. Food Waste This is more like throwing away a half-eaten sandwich because you're full. It's the intentional discarding of food that's still good to eat. It includes: All those vegetables forgotten in your fridge or Uneaten meals in restaurants and homes Each wasted morsel represents lost resources, wasted labor, and most importantly, a missed opportunity to feed someone in need. 2. The Hidden Cost of Food Waste: A Global Challenge In a world capable of producing enough food for everyone, the scale of food waste has reached unprecedented levels. This waste occurs at every stage of the food supply chain, from farm to fork, and represents a significant challenge in our efforts to feed a growing global population sustainably. Believe it or not, about one-third of all food produced globally is lost or wasted. That's like making three pizzas and throwing one away entirely![1] This amounts is a staggering 1.3 billion tons of edible food each year. In industrialized countries, at least 40% of food is wasted at retail and consumer levels. The European Union alone generates an estimated 88 million tonnes of food waste annually, with households responsible for more than half of this amount. This wastage isn't just about discarded leftovers. It represents a massive loss of nutrients, especially from fruits and vegetables, which suffer the highest levels of waste due to their perishability. Ironically, while nutritious food is being thrown away, up to 811 million people worldwide struggle to afford quality meals daily.[2] 3. The Environmental impact of food waste The environmental impact is equally alarming. Food waste contributes to 8%-10% of greenhouse gas emissions and wastes vast amounts of land, water, and energy used in food production.[3] Financially, the cost is enormous, with the EU's annual food waste estimated at 143 billion euros. Addressing this issue is crucial for creating a more sustainable and equitable food system. By preventing food loss and waste, we can save nutritious food for redistribution, reduce pressure on natural resources, help mitigate climate change, and save money across the entire food supply chain. 4. How does this affect food security? Food security means having reliable access to enough affordable, nutritious food. On the flip side of this wasteful abundance, we have a global hunger crisis. Food security remains out of reach for millions. It's like having a leaky water pipe in a desert; there's plenty of water, but it's not getting to those who need it most. Current approaches, like food banks and donations, while well-intentioned, often fall short. They treat the symptoms rather than addressing the root causes of food insecurity. When we waste food or lose it before it reaches people, we're essentially taking food off someone's plate. Here's how: Less Available Food: Every bit of food lost or wasted is food that can't feed hungry people. Higher Food Prices: Food loss and waste can drive up food prices, making it harder for people to afford nutritious meals.[4] Think of it like a leaky water bucket. If we're trying to provide water (food) to everyone, but there are holes in our bucket (loss and waste), we'll always struggle to meet everyone's needs. 5. What can we do? Use better technology: Improving harvesting, storage, and transportation methods can reduce food loss. It's like upgrading from a paper bag to a lunchbox to keep your sandwich fresh. Consumer education: Teaching people about meal planning, proper food storage, and the impact of waste can help reduce food waste at home. Circular economy approaches: This involves finding ways to reuse or recycle food that would otherwise be wasted. For example, turning overripe fruits into jams or using food scraps for composting. Food donation: These initiatives collect surplus food from restaurants and stores to distribute to those in need, like a city-wide leftover sharing system. The institutionalization of food aid is often presented as a way to reduce waste. The Belgian food industry wastes 161 kg of food per inhabitant per year, compared to ‘only’ 59 kg in the Netherlands, 29 kg in France and even only 19 kg in Germany. This puts Belgium almost at the bottom of the European ranking; only Cyprus does even worse.[5] The problem is that 95% of food aid comes from the agro-industry. This mechanism reinforces the functioning of the industrial system, which, to maximize its profit, is in constant overproduction, thus producing consumable waste. Tax deductions related to food donations help reduce the cost of this overproduction. This mechanism, which makes the agro-industrial system appear philanthropic, is in reality a masquerade. Food donation contributes to the profitability and legitimacy of the agro-industrial system, while distributing poor quality products. Food donation is often presented as a fight against food waste, but it treats people resorting to aid as "ethical garbage bins". Moving away from this donation logic and fighting against food waste are not incompatible. An upward exit from food donation is necessary to establish a right to food and real food sovereignty. [6] Food Social Security: an inspring model? Now, imagine a system where everyone has a guaranteed budget for quality food, just like how many countries ensure access to healthcare through social security. That's the idea behind the Food Social Security model proposes to extend the principle of health social security to access to quality and chosen food for all. This idea is based on the principles of unity, universality, democracy, and solidarity. Here's how it could work: Universal Coverage: Every citizen gets a monthly food allowance on their "food card" (think health insurance card, but for groceries). Quality Assurance: The allowance can only be used for products meeting certain standards of quality, sustainability, and fair labor practices. Democratic Control: Citizens have a say in defining these standards, promoting a more democratic food system. Local Emphasis: The system encourages local production and consumption, reducing waste in transport and storage. Fair Compensation: Farmers and food workers receive fair compensation, addressing the economic disparities that often lead to waste and food insecurity. Connecting the Dots: How Food Social Security addresses both waste and security Food Social Security could tackle both sides of the food waste-security equation by: Reducing Waste: By ensuring a stable market for quality produce, Food Social Security discourages overproduction and reduces the likelihood of food being wasted due to market fluctuations. Enhancing Security: With a guaranteed food budget, no one has to choose between eating and other necessities. This universal access promotes better nutrition and reduces reliance on emergency food aid. Empowering Choices: Food Social Security allows people to choose their food, rather than relying on whatever's available at a food bank. This dignity of choice is a crucial aspect of true food security. Supporting Sustainable Practices: By setting standards for eligible products, Food Social Security can encourage more sustainable farming practices, which often produce less waste. Strengthening Local Systems: Emphasizing local production can shorten supply chains, reducing opportunities for waste while ensuring fresher food reaches consumers.[7] Of course, implementing such a system isn't without challenges. It would require significant political will, new funding mechanisms, and a shift in how we think about food as a society. Questions about cost, administration, and potential impacts on the current food industry would need to be addressed. However, when we consider the enormous costs - both financial and human - of our current wasteful and inequitable food system, the potential benefits of Food Social Security become clear. The Big Picture: The Water-Energy-Food Experts are increasingly looking at food security as part of a bigger picture that includes water and energy. These three elements are closely connected. For instance, producing food requires water and energy, and wasting food means we're also wasting the water and energy used to produce it. Understanding these connections can help us develop more effective solutions. It's like solving a puzzle – when we see how all the pieces fit together, we can create better strategies to ensure everyone has access to the food, water, and energy they need. Conclusion Reducing food loss and waste is a critical step in improving global food security. While the challenge is complex, every action counts – from governments implementing new policies to individuals being more mindful about their grocery shopping and leftovers. Food Social Security represents a bold reimagining of our food system, one that could address the twin challenges of waste and insecurity. By treating food as a fundamental right, much like healthcare in many countries, we could create a more equitable, sustainable, and efficient way of feeding our communities. As we face growing environmental challenges and persistent inequality, innovative solutions like FSS deserve our attention. After all, in a world that produces more than enough food to feed everyone, shouldn't we find a way to get it to those who need it most? What do you think? Could Food Social Security be the ingredient we've been missing in our recipe for a better food system? The table is set for change - it's up to us to take the first bite. The life of Dr. Susan Maria Smith McKinney Steward is one such radiant story, a testament to the power of determination, education, and the strenght human spirit can have in the face of adversity. As we delve into her remarkable journey, we'll discover how her legacy continues to inspire and inform our understanding of intersectionality in science, innovation, and sustainability. The Smith Family's Commitment to Equality and Education Born in March 1847 in Crow Hill, Brooklyn (now known as Crown Heights), Susan emerged from a family deeply rooted in the fight for equality and education. Her father, Sylvanus Smith, was not just a prominent pork merchant but a fierce abolitionist who played a pivotal role in Brooklyn's anti-slavery movement. The Smith family belonged to a Black community that was free to choose its own path and created influential institutions and an anti-slavery agenda that would shape future generations of activists. Growing Up in Brooklyn's Free Black Community Raised in an environment of social action and academic ambition, young Susan and her sister Sarah were instilled with principles that would guide them for the rest of their lives. Susan's future endeavours would be anchored by the Smith family's dedication to promoting African American educational success as a method of elevating their community's social position. Breaking Barriers in Medical Education Susan was exceptionally talented and determined. She developed her abilities as a talented musician while working as an organist and choirmaster. Enrolling in New York Medical College for Women Susan underwent a significant change as a result of the terrible cholera outbreak that ravaged New York City and the untimely death of her brother during the Civil War. She switched her attention from music to medicine after being moved by a strong desire to end suffering. She enrolled at the New York Medical College for Women in 1867.[1][3][5]. Graduating as Valedictorian Graduating as valedictorian in 1869, Susan etched her name in history as the first African-American woman to earn a medical degree in New York State and the third in the United States – a remarkable achievement in the aftermath of slavery's abolition just four years prior. A Groundbreaking Medical Career But this remarkable accomplishment was just the start of her trailbazing career. Despite the severe challenges she had as a Black woman working in medicine, Susan opened her own clinic and helped create the Brooklyn Women's Homoeopathic Hospital and Dispensary in 1881. Establishing a Diverse Medical Practice Dr. McKinney Steward's medical career made a significant statement about the confluence of gender, race, and science. During a period when discrimination against female doctors, particularly African American women, was pervasive, she successfully ran two Manhattan and Brooklyn offices that catered to both Black and White patients. Her ability to succeed in this difficult setting is a credit to her drive, expertise, and compassion. Patients of all backgrounds, Black and White alike, came to respect and admire her for her skill in treating malnourished children and her steadfast dedication to prenatal care and childhood ailments. Indee, she was recognized for her expertise in treating conditions like marasmus, a severe form of malnutrition[1]. Community Involvement and Social Impact In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. McKinney Steward had a strong community involvement. She combined her passion of music with her dedication to community service over her 28 years as organist and choir director at the Bridge Street A.M.E. Church. Her varied skills and passions serve as a reminder of the value of many viewpoints in fostering creativity and social advancement.[2] Over her long career, Susan's influence went much beyond the medical field. She served as president of her local chapter of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, further demonstrating her commitment to social justice. As president, she was active in various social reform movements, advocating for an alcoholic free way of living and women's rights. Her tireless efforts to champion social justice and equality left an indelible mark on her community.[1][5] Pioneering Homeopathic Approaches From 1870 to 1895, she operated her own practice and co-founded the Brooklyn Women's Homeopathic Hospital and Dispensary in 1881, which later became known as the Memorial Hospital for Women and Children[1][2][3][4]. Legacy and Lasting Impact McKinney-Steward's influence extended beyond her medical practice. In 1906, she became the college physician at Wilberforce University in Ohio, where she continued to educate and inspire future generations until her death in 1918. The fact that Sands Junior High School in Brooklyn was renamed in her honour in 1974, 56 years after her death, is evidence of the lasting influence of her work and the strength of revealing and honouring forgotten histories.[1][4] Thinking back on Dr. McKinney Steward's life serves as a reminder of the vital role that a variety of voices play in furthering sustainability and research. Her experience serves as an example of how members of under-represented groups can make ground-breaking contributions to society as a whole if given the chance. In a historical context where few women, particularly women of color, could pursue careers in science and medicine, Susan McKinney Steward's achievements stand as a testament to her resilience and dedication. Her life and work not only advanced the field of medicine but also paved the way for future generations of women in science, making her a vital figure in the narrative of intersectional women in science. Conclusion Embracing intersectionality in science today is about unleashing the whole creative potential of humans, not just about justice or representation. The life of Dr. McKinney Steward shows us that when we dismantle barriers and embrace different viewpoints, we create new avenues for innovative ideas, methods, and solutions that can help us tackle some of the most urgent problems we face, such as those pertaining to sustainability and healthcare. The lesson from Dr. McKinney Steward's life is evident as we continue to struggle with global concerns like social inequality, pandemics, and climate change: real progress and lasting solutions come from valuing and amplifying various voices in science and beyond. Her transformation from an abolitionist's daughter to a trailblazing doctor is both an inspiration and a call to action. In honoring her legacy, we will work to foster an inclusive scientific community, one that harnesses the power of diverse perspectives to drive innovation and build a more sustainable, and equitable future. Through her life, Dr. Susan McKinney Steward serves as a reminder that every voice matters, every narrative matters, and that when we band together, we can overcome apparently insurmountable challenges to bring about positive change in the world. For the first time in Olympic history, all 32 sports will achieve full gender parity, with an equal number of slots allocated to male and female athletes. This pivotal moment represents the culmination of a century-long journey towards equal representation in the world's most prestigious sporting event. Nevertheless, while the Olympics are set to achieve full gender parity for the first time in history, the Paralympic movement has faced a more challenging path towards this goal. This disparity highlights the complexities of achieving sustainable equality in elite sports and the unique challenges faced by women with disabilities. Equality: Century in the making The path to this point has been a marathon, not a sprint. Consider this: when Paris first hosted the Olympics in 1900, a mere 22 women competed. The 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, and women participated in 26 sports, making up 34% of competitors. At the Tokyo 2021 Olympics Games saw 47.87% female atheletes competing in 33 sports. Now, Paris 2024 completes this trajectory with a perfect 50-50 split across all Olympic disciplines.[1] In contrast, the Paralympic Games, despite being around for over 60 years, still struggle with gender imbalance. At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Summer Games, women accounted for only 42% of all athlete delegates. The situation is even more stark in the Winter Games, where women comprised a mere 24% of all competitors at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games. This progress mirrors the broader societal shifts we've seen over the past century. As women have gained more rights and opportunities in education, the workplace, and society at large, so it was time they claimed their rightful place in the sporting arena! [2] The Challenges of Representation The disparity in gender representation extends beyond athlete participation. The lack of women in leadership positions has far-reaching effects on policy-making and resource allocation within the Olympic and Paralympic Movement. Historically, the representation of women on the International Olympic Committee has lagged behind the rate of female participation in the games, often falling short of its target of a minimum 20% female presence. However, as of 2023, 41.1% of the committee members are women.[3] On the other hand, women account for only 20% of National Paralympic Committee (NPC) presidential roles and have limited representation on many key committees and boards. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has made efforts to address this imbalance, setting a 30% goal for women within its leadership structures in 2003, which was increased to 50% in 2017. However, progress has been slow, and in 2021, the IPC controversially backed away from this commitment, stating it was a "non-mandatory preference."[4] Transforming Traditionally Male-Dominated Sports One of the most striking examples of this transformation can be seen in boxing. Long considered a quintessentially male sport, boxing will feature an equal number of weight categories for men and women in Paris. What a change from 2012 when women's boxing was first introduced to the Olympics with just three weight classes, compared to ten for men. [5] Mixed-Gender Events: A Double-Edged Sword Both the Olympic and Paralympic movements have turned to mixed-gender events as a strategy to increase women's participation. These events not only expand opportunities for female athletes but also challenge our conventional notions of gender-specific sports. [6] While this appoach was very successfull for the Olympics, the success is more nuanced for the Paralympics. As a matter of fact, some Paralympic mixed-gender sports, like Para equestrian, have seen high levels of female participation, with women comprising 72% of all participants at the 2020 Tokyo Games. However, other mixed-gender sports like wheelchair rugby and Para ice hockey continue to be dominated by men, with women making up only a small fraction of participants.[4] The Economic Impact of Women's Sports Women's competitions have increasingly become a driving force in Olympic viewership and athletic achievement. Since 2016, female athletes have broken 35 world records in long-course swimming events, compared to 21 by men. This trend is evident in medal counts as well; in the last two Summer Olympics, U.S. women outperformed their male counterparts, winning 66 medals to men's 41 in Tokyo 2020. This success is echoed globally, with female athletes winning 60.5% of Australia's and 66% of China's gold medals in the same Games. So, this is not a surprise that the rise in women's Olympic participation correlates with the growing economic potential of women's sports. A 2023 Deloitte report projects that women's sports will generate global revenues of $1.28 billion in 2024, with a compound annual growth rate of 32% from 2021 to 2024. This economic growth is both a result of and a catalyst for increased investment in women's sports.[8] Breaking Barriers Motherhood in Elite Sports The 2024 Games are expected to showcase more mothers competing than ever before, reflecting evolving policies by National Olympic Committees and sports federations. For instance, the U.S. Olympic Committee now provides travel support for caregivers and young children, a policy that supported nine mothers in Tokyo 2020. For Paris 2024, the French National Olympic and Sports Committee plans offer additional rooms near the Village for breastfeeding mothers and families, and special passes for parents with young children during the Paralympic Games.[9] Track star Allyson Felix has been a leading advocate for maternal rights in sports. Her public stance against restrictive maternity policies in 2019 prompted significant changes in how sponsors approach pregnant athletes and new mothers. This shift challenges long-held assumptions about motherhood and elite athletic performance, paving the way for more inclusive policies that support women throughout their careers.[10] Women with disabilities The challenges faced by women in Paralympic sports are compounded by several factors: Higher disability rates: Globally, women are more likely to experience a disability than men, yet they are underrepresented in sport settings. Societal barriers: Women with disabilities face additional social, cultural, and economic barriers to sports participation, including societal expectations regarding family responsibilities and cultural norms about women in public spaces. Impairment types: The Paralympic Games include a limited number of impairment types, some of which are more common among men (e.g., spinal cord injuries), while conditions more prevalent in women (e.g., multiple sclerosis, arthritis) are less likely to be included.[4] Media Coverage: A Shifting Landscape Media coverage plays a crucial role in promoting gender equality in sports. NBC, the U.S. Olympic broadcaster, has committed to equal primetime coverage of men's and women's events for Paris 2024. This marks a notable shift from previous Olympics and could set a new industry standard, potentially influencing how other media outlets approach sports coverage. [7] The Importance of Diversity in Decision-Making While celebrating these advancements, it's crucial to recognize the importance of diversity in decision-making roles. Currently, women hold only 27% of executive positions in international sports federations. This underrepresentation at the leadership level can hinder progress and perpetuate systemic biases. Increasing diversity in sports leadership is not just about fairness; it's about leveraging diverse perspectives to drive innovation and growth. When decision-makers come from varied backgrounds, they bring a wealth of experiences and viewpoints that can lead to more inclusive policies and strategies. Looking Ahead: Challenges and Opportunities While the 2024 Paris Olympics represent a significant milestone in gender equality, challenges persist. The gender pay gap remains a concern in many sports, and women continue to face unique barriers in their athletic careers. The challenge lies not just in increasing the numbers of female participants, but in addressing the systemic barriers that prevent women, especially those with disabilities, from fully engaging in sports at all levels. However, the progress we've seen gives us reason for optimism.
